A very complex story that introduces the world of New Crobuzon. The story mostly focuses on Issac and Lin, their work, their relationship, their history and how they deal with the threat of the Slake Moths. This story is very visual and vividily described. And due to the large amount of information included in the plot line with side characters, history, this vividiness can become overwhelming. I felt the story was crammed with with information, that wasn’t all necessary. It slowed the plot quite considerably at times. I enjoyed reading about Issac and Lin, and the closest characters they interacted with Derkhan and Yag. It was also a strange idea of have a human and an intelegant insect involved romantically. But all the other characters didn’t seem to well developed and if Mieville had tried to develop them futher this long book would have been much longer. The ending worked well for Issac and his friends, but I was unsure about Yag's conclusion.
